When we met Courtney, she was finishing up at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Having young children at home, she decided it was time to make a career shift that would align more with the lifestyle she wanted to have--spending more time with her children and spending the rest of her time helping others improve their lives. When she came to Compass, she needed a professional website to publicly launch her business.
Five weeks later, Courtney launched her health coaching business with a new website! We asked Courtney a few questions that showcase who she is as an entrepreneur:
Tell us about your business.
As a health coach, I work with individuals as well as businesses and organizations, listening to how people want to change their lives for the big picture. Typically, people know they want to eat healthier and be healthier, which offers both positive short and long term effects on overall health and well being.
I work with people on what works best for them (no one size fits all, no "diet"), helping create meal plans and lifestyle changes that allow them reach their goals.
What made you decide to start it?
Having children was the catalyst--I wanted to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem when it came to the challenges our youth face regarding food choices, the obesity epidemic, and overall health outcomes. Also, the education that the Institute for Integrative Nutrition provides is unsurpassed for health coaching!
How did you get your first customers?
People who know me know my legacy, besides my family, is giving back, and doing everything I can to make the world a better place and offer to pay it forward. That said, my first clients have been friends who want to make changes in diet and lifestyle.
What's the most valuable piece of advice you've gotten about starting your business?
- Be relentless, but be kind.
- Treat everyone the way you want to be treated
- Never stop learning, be hungry for knowledge
What entrepreneur do you look up to the most?
I don't have a specific role model, but I look up to any entrepreneur who wants to make the world better today than it was yesterday.
What role do you see your website playing in your business?
My website is a great representation to the world of who I am, my approach, and how I work with clients.
What was your favorite part about working with Compass?
Compass was incredible in the process of offering me a project manager for the entire scope of my website development and then pairing me with a designer who would work best for me. Excellent intuition and results!
